“Fly ash-based geopolymer binders and activating solutions for use in forming a concrete as well as methods for forming concrete including the binders are described. The fly ash-based geopolymer binders include a combination of fly ash, silica fume, and sodium hydroxide as well as an amount of Portland cement. Concretes formed of the binders can exhibit excellent compressive strength and fuel energy characteristics as well as being more cost efficient as compared to other concretes. The inclusion of an amount of Portland cement in the binders can allow for a decrease in sodium hydroxide and silica fume content while maintaining desirable compressive strength characteristics.

My Professional Profile
There are so many people in the world who never have the opportunity to pursue the career they love. I’m not one of them. I love what I do and since starting my career in Iraq, I’m thrilled to say that I’ve learned from so many trained professionals in my field. I know that I still have so much to learn from others in the industry. I’m a hard worker, a team player and excited to see what projects could benefit from my unique skill set.

Focuses on the sustainable concrete, geopolymer concrete, Portland cement properties’ developments, Nano materials amendments in Portland cement, and non-destructive structural health monitoring; specifically, working on a project with NASA.
Associate Engineer II/6A, Engineering-District 1, Lexington Construction B, SC Department of Transportation (SCDOT)
2018 - 2019
Monitors highway and bridge construction projects for compliance with plans, specifications and standards. Notifies the contractor and RCE of deficiencies and verifies that those issues are resolved appropriately. Ensures construction inspection and sampling and testing requirements are met or exceeded by qualified inspectors. Resolves construction conflicts to keep assigned projects on time and on budget. Ensures work zone safety and traffic control requirements are met on assigned projects and work is in accordance with environmental regulations and permits. Supervises and develops subordinate engineers and inspectors. Assists the RCE with performance (EPMS) reviews of subordinate employees. Ensures subordinate inspectors are well trained and receive technical assistance, guidance and coaching as needed. Maintains satisfactory RCE score on assigned projects measured by cost, schedule, QMT and closeout factors included in the evaluation. Ensures that construction projects are safe for the Contractor, SCDOT personnel and the traveling public. Serves as the Departments representative when dealing with the contractors, general public, property owners, utility company representatives, etc.
Engineer Associate, Laurens Maintenance, SC Department of Transportation (SCDOT)
2017 - 2018
Trains in the management of all phases of highway and bridge maintenance programs. Trains in the use of typical equipment used for maintenance. Trains in the management of highway and bridge maintenance programs and contracts. Trains in the use of HMMS. Trains in the review and coordination of encroachment permit applications. Trains in the performance of traffic engineering related duties such as access management. Trains in Mileage Entry.
Graduate Research/Teaching Assistant, Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of South Carolina-Columbia
2014 - 2018
PhD material and structural: Focused on the sustainable concrete, geopolymer concrete, Portland cement properties’ developments, Nano materials amendments in Portland cement, and non-destructive structural health monitoring
Assistant Professor, Laboratory, Technical Institute/ Samawa, Iraq
2011 - 2012
I have taught estimating quantity class. In addition, I worked as Laboratory in the materials lab and field tests for the concrete, soil, pavement, and bricks
Engineering Assistant, Ministry of Municipality Affairs and Urban Planning, Al Muthanna, Iraq
2010 - 2011
Supervised some multistory buildings, bridges, and highways’ constructions in Basrah and Al-Muthanna cities in Iraq. Part of the core team involved with the construction of four concrete bridges. Supervised all concreting aspects of the project. Actively involved in planning, testing and monitoring the construction of piles, piers, and abutment of bridges.
Courses Taught
Concrete Technology, Al-Mustaqbal University College
2019 - Present
Teaching a concrete technology class for junior students. This class involves teaching concrete behaviors at fresh and hardening state. In addition, lab testing procedures are taught.
Analysis and Design of Reinforced Concrete Structures, Al-Mustaqbal University College
2019 - Present
Teaching senior students by focusing on how to design a flat slab, yield line, and shear in slab system.
Prestressed concrete
2016-2017
University of South Carolina-Columbia
Reinforced concrete (analysis & design)
2016-2017
University of South Carolina-Columbia
Estimating quantity
2011
Technical Institute/ Samawa, Iraq
Surveying technique
2011
Technical Institute/ Samawa, Iraq
Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM)
I have worked with SEM for five years. I used SEM imaging to explore concrete, paste, and geopolymer microstructure.
ANSYS: Structure analysis
ANSYS was used to analyze the reinforced concrete corner joint. Shear stresses were plotted and identified using this program.
Acoustic emission technique and analysis
I used acoustic emission in several applications such as monitoring hydration process, existing structures, and bridges. Awin and NIOSES application were employed to interpret acoustic emission data.
Educational Experience
Ph.D., Civil Engineering, University of South Carolina-Columbia
2014 - 2018
I had investigated fly ash-based geopolymer concrete properties and improved some of mechanical properties such as compressive strength, absorption, and early and final compressive strength while I was doing my PhD study. The improved properties including; but not limited to using external heat, may be limited using geopolymer concrete in precast/prestressed applications, sucrose for extending final and initial setting, fly ash source effects, etc.
M.Sc., Engineering management, University of South Carolina-Columbia
2015-2017
Focused on the optimizing cost and fuel usage (thermal energy) of geopolymer concrete. Marketing, and communication plans were introduced, based on that five cities and two countries were suggested to start the geopolymer concrete business.
M.Sc., Civil Engineering\ structure, University of Basrah
2008-2011
Reinforced concrete corner joints were analyzed theoretically using ANSYS program. With several reinforcement details, the effect of reinforcement details at the corner joint is studied for commonly used detailing systems, and the nonlinear response is traced throughout the entire load range up to failure.
BSc, Civil engineering/University of Basrah
2005-2008
I graduated with BSc degree in civil engineering. I took most of civil engineering classes in my university
